2026 Canberra cost bands.

Canberra kitchen renovation prices rose through 2025–26 on strong construction demand and trade shortages. Honest ranges for a full reno:

• Budget / flat-pack full reno: $13,000–$27,500 — modular cabinets, laminate or entry stone, keep existing layout.
• Mid-range (most common): $27,500–$50,000 — custom soft-close joinery, stone or porcelain benchtop, quality appliances, minor layout tweaks.
• Premium / fully custom: $60,000–$88,000+ — bespoke cabinetry, island and butler’s pantry, premium stone, integrated appliances, structural changes.
• Relocating sink / cooktop: add $3,000–$8,000 in plumbing + electrical.

The renovation process, step by step.

1. Design & measure. We measure, discuss how you use the kitchen, and produce a 3D layout with finishes.
2. Fixed quote & program. Itemised written quote, timeline, and a clear statement of any ACTPLA approval or asbestos checks needed.
3. Manufacture & book. Cabinetry goes into production (3–6 weeks) while we lock in trades.
4. Strip-out & rough-in. Demolition, then plumbing and electrical rough-in, inspected and certified.
5. Install & fit-off. Cabinetry, benchtop template + fit, splashback, appliances, tapware, final clean and handover.

Licensing, approvals & compliance.

Building work in the ACT is regulated under the Construction Occupations (Licensing) Act 2004 through Access Canberra, and building approvals run through ACT Planning (ACTPLA). A like-for-like kitchen swap generally doesn’t need development approval, but opening up a wall does — and the plumbing and electrical always need licensed, certified trades. Where a kitchen adjoins a wet area we waterproof to AS 3740. We hold the ACT licences for the work and tell you exactly what approvals apply — we don’t quietly skip a certifier to win a job.

Older homes: the asbestos & Mr Fluffy check.

Canberra has a real asbestos history. Homes built before the mid-1980s can contain bonded asbestos in wall sheeting, vinyl floor backing and old splashbacks, and the ACT carries the Mr Fluffy loose-fill asbestos legacy from insulation installed between 1968 and 1980. Before any demolition in an older home we identify suspect materials and arrange licensed testing and removal where required. We never disturb material we suspect contains asbestos — it’s a legal and safety requirement, and we build it into the program honestly rather than discovering it mid-job.

Why we don’t cut corners.

A kitchen is the highest-use room in the house and the highest-ticket residential renovation most people ever do. Skipping a plumbing certificate, installing banned high-silica stone, or papering over asbestos to hit a price might look cheaper today — it isn’t when it fails, voids your insurance, or has to be redone.
